We validate our Erwin DM r7.x model by saving the model as Erwin Data Modeler Standard .XML and then loading that XML to compare models with an internal program written in Micosoft Access. With Erwin Data Modeler r8.2 save as Standard XML, the compares now do not work - there are differences in the .XML format. How can those difference in the .XML format be determined?
The XML change is only in the tags and the metadata, some of which have been renamed, added, or deprecated. when a new tag is added or removed, it impacts all objects in that class, so that is the only format change. If there was a program written to read and compare 7.x tags, then program will need to be revised.
The metadata changes are in the files that are provided with the CA ERwin DM install. Those are located in this subfolder 'metadata changes' in the installation folder. E.g.,
C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\ERwin Data Modeler r8\metadata changes
Alternately, you can take a model and generate an XML file using CA ERwin DM r7.x. Then open the same model and create an XML using r8.x. Then compare the two XML files to see the differences between them.
